The River Penpont is a beautiful clear trout stream, almost untouched by anglers. Its source originates at Bowithick, no more than 4 miles upstream from this Beat. This beat is small, clear and mostly tree lined, meaning fishing can be challenging when the water is low and the trees in full leaf.
Moving slowly and stealthily whilst keeping casts short and accurate is the key to hooking a Penpont trout. Short (5-9ft), light tackle (0-4wt) is advised, and waders are a must if covering plenty of water.
We recommend upstream dry or duo for much of the Beat, with some opportunity to Euronymph or streamer fish after a spate.

Expect plenty of trout in the 3-9" range, with the chance to catch some larger fish too, the largest fish so far this season is 14", a lean overwintered Male fish which took a Beaded PTM suspended under a large Elk Caddis.
